BUILD Magazine Wins Best Trade Publication in Magazine Publishers Association’s Annual Awards of Excellence
BUILD, the building and construction magazine funded by the Building Research Levy, has won the 2005 Magazine Publishers Association (MPA) Award for trade and professional publications targeted to a business audience.
Allan Nichols, chief executive of Building Research, the organisation who manage and invest the Building Research Levy says “This Award recognises the quality of this publication, which plays a key role in ensuring that the building and construction industry, where the average enterprise has less than five employees, is kept abreast of ‘best practice’ and thereby able to create a better built environment.”
Building Research is charged with determining the knowledge needs of the building and construction sector, identifying priority needs and then allocating the Building Research Levy to address those needs.
Building Research contributes around $400,000 to produce BUILD magazine which is published six times a year and is free to building contractors who pay the Building Research Levy, and provided to senior apprentices training with the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO).
“Much of the information BUILD has to convey is of a technical nature such as research findings of research or compliance issues. Its readership requires information on these issues that they can quickly access and use, and meeting these requirements is never easy. The fact that BUILD achieves these objectives reflects considerable merit on all those responsible for its production, a fact clearly not lost on the judges of this Award.”
Building Research makes around 40 percent of its investment in knowledge transfer, providing advisory services, seminars and publications to the sector. BUILD, which is produced by BRANZ Ltd, has an audited circulation of 16,500.
“The MPA exists to foster and maintain high standards in magazine publishing. Winning this prestigious Award is an acknowledgement that the BUILD publication is best in class,” Dr Nichols said.
Note to editors:
Building Research is governed by a Board drawn widely from industry and invests the Building Research Levy in a wide range of research, technology transfer and scholarship activities. See www.buildingresearch.org.nz
BRANZ Ltd is a separate entity with its own Board and management, delivering research, consultancy and educational services. BRANZ Ltd is owned by Building Research but draws only 40% of its income from investments by Building Research.
