ACP Media Scoops Magazine Awards
ACP Media won one of two Supreme Awards and scooped 14 out of 52 category awards on offer at the Magazine Publisher Association’s (MPA) Magazine of the Year Awards 2005 announced in Auckland tonight.
Claire McCall, Editor of Your Home & Garden and New Zealand Home & Entertaining was named Supreme Winner Editor of the Year after earlier winning Best Editor in the Home & Food category. The award judges commented that “Claire brings a huge energy to her dual role. It is not easy to edit two publications well with significantly different positioning.”
“This is a great win for Claire McCall and for everyone involved in New Zealand Home & Entertaining and Your Home & Garden,” says ACP Media Group Publisher, Debra Millar. “The quality of the work put in by Claire and her team is the reason why thousands of New Zealanders turn to ACP Media’s home titles for inspiration. In the past four years, our home titles have experienced double digit growth in circulation and readership.”
ACP Media had winners and finalists across almost every main award group and category.
Joining Claire McCall in the Editor of the Year Winners award group are Nigel Horrocks of NetGuide for Special Interest, Rosemary Barraclough of Little Treasures for Contract and Robyn Langwell of North & South for Current Affairs/News.
Three ACP Media magazines were category winners in the Magazine of the Year Group. Next beat out all contenders to win the Lifestyle category, while Little Treasures and NetGuide took out the Contract and Special Interest categories respectively.
Jackie Jones of Australian Women’s Weekly won Sales Person of the Year for her extremely strong contribution to the bottom line performance of the magazine.
The company’s journalistic strength was demonstrated with Journalist of the Year awards going to Amanda Cropp of Next in the Lifestyle category and Virginia Larson of North & South in the Current Affairs/News category. Helen Brown of Next also won the Lifestyle category for Columnist of the Year.
ACP Media’s design depth was recognised in several awards. For Designer of the Year, the Contract Publishing category was won by Susanne Baldwin of Air New Zealand Magazine and the Current Affairs/News category went to Jenny Nicholls of Metro. Metro also took the Current Affairs/News category as a Cover of the Year winner.
“Having winners and finalists right across the board shows ACP Media’s strength as New Zealand’s leading magazine publisher and continues our track record of leadership in the magazine market,” says ACP Media Chief Executive Officer, Heith Mackay-Cruise. “We make a significant investment in our products and people to ensure they are of the highest calibre, and this is reflected in our success in the MPA Magazine of the Year Awards.
“ ACP Media’s business is driven by an understanding of what matters to New Zealanders, and we are focused on delivering local and international content that is both compelling and relevant. Our performance at the awards shows our publications are essential reading for thousands of New Zealanders.”
