Young business responds to Sustainable Business Challenge
The challenge of entering the newly designed Sustainable Business Challenge has been both beneficial and rewarding for local business LFC Flooring – New Zealand. The 18month old company are in the process of developing their unique business and were not sure where their industry was heading in terms of sustainability.
Company owner Lisa Lindsay agreed that they got a lot out of the process “We were not sure whether we should participate or not being a fairly new company – but we have definitely got a lot out of it and the process was easy” she said
Participants are interviewed by an independent sustainability assessor at no cost, and are then provided a basis for benchmarking their sustainable practices. “The concept of the challenge is to encourage businesses to take up the advice and feedback from the judges and to make sustainable improvements over the next 12 months” said Calum Revfem, SBN Regional Manager, “The attraction of this process is that any company can enter no matter where they are on their own sustainability journey, a new member to the Sustainable Business Network, Laminate Flooring Centre is an example of that” he continued.
The categories include Sustainable Business, Sustainability Innovation and Sustainable Economic Development. SBN regional manager Calum Revfem explains that the new format has been structured to add value, reflecting the ongoing nature of becoming a sustainable business.
The awards are supported by Environment Bay of Plenty, the major sponsor, as well as Tauranga City Council, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Destination Rotorua District Council and Trust Power. Following the launch, nominations stay open until April 22.
