Caltex helps Variety in its fun-raising
NEW ZEALAND, 4 March 2005 – Water fights, toy car races and flour bombing pirates were some of the mad cap activities The Variety Bash had in store for locals this week, as it travelled through towns between New Plymouth and Hamilton, fundraising and presenting grants to children in need.
One of those leading the charge was the Caltex V8 Supercar followed more sedately by the big red Caltex Pump Truck, helping distribute more than $220,000 in grants and visiting more than 60 schools. The week-long Bash came to a stop after a parade along Hamilton's streets this afternoon.
Kay Brookes, Caltex Brand Marketing Specialist and 'Basher' for seven years says fun and giving is what the Bash is all about - coming into town, making some noise and presenting grants to worthy causes and children in need.
"As a long-time sponsor of the Bash, Caltex was delighted to present a $5000 grant to six-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Joshua Loforteza for his first walking frame, at Tauranga's Kaka Street Special School on Wednesday," she said.
"Seeing the joy and delight on the faces of the children receiving the Variety grants is an unforgettable experience that keeps so many of us coming back year after year," she said.
Caltex will also make another couple of kids happy when the two winners of their colouring competition are announced after Easter. A Sony CD walkman will be given to each of the winners and a Sony digital camera for the winners' schools. Entries need to be in by 14 March, children should ask their teachers for details or contact Variety.
The Caltex team, during Caltex's sponsored day (Wednesday 3 March) bought smiles to the faces of Pauanui locals with their water-soaked Kayak races which were flour bombed by local school pupils dressed up as pirates.
"All the local towns we visited gave the Bash a warm welcome. It's so good to get out among the communities Caltex operates in and give something back to them," said Brookes.
