Free range producer on egg board
Auckland, 10 February 2005. The commercial interests of free range egg producers will have a dedicated voice on the Egg Producers Federation (EPF) through the appointment of Mr Roger Moore, a free range King Country farmer.
Mr Moore, who is appointed to a newly created position on the EPF’s nine member Board, is excited about the opportunity to represent the unique breadth of issues concerning the free range and organic sector.
He says he wants to champion research and consultation into such issues as beak tipping which affect all three production systems so the industry as a whole will benefit.
Mr. Moore farms sheep, beef and 1500 laying hens on a King Country farm near Taumarunui, certified organic with Certenz with the egg production accredited by the RNZSPCA.
A relative newcomer to egg production, Mr Moore plans to expand over the next year to cater for what he describes as the “undoubted demand for both free range and organic eggs.”
Qualified as a photographer and social worker in the United Kingdom, he has run businesses in North America and is a former television programme director there. He ran yacht charter companies and hotels in Los Angeles, Mexico and Turkey before returning to the UK where he held executive positions and operated his own communications company.
He and his wife Sue came to New Zealand in 1999.
EPF chairman Mr Michael Guthrie, who manages the largest free range and caged egg farms in New Zealand, welcomes Mr Moore’s appointment, saying it is a positive step towards having all aspects of the egg industry represented at Board level.
