Red Carpet Calls Kiwis To The Internet
Hollywood is luring tens of thousands of Kiwis to the Internet as they log-on to find out who’s hot and who’s not at the
movie industry’s biggest night of the year.
The 77th annual Academy Awards on February 28 is expected to be the biggest day of the year for XtraMSN. Over 113,000
unique users logged on to catch the Oscars action last year, over four times the daily average for the site’s
entertainment pages.
“New Zealanders are fascinated by the Oscars” said Carolyn McKenzie Telecom’s Head of New Media. “Even without the
excitement generated by The Lord of the Rings last year, people are drawn to the glamour and anticipation of it all.”
Kiwis will be represented at the awards this year by Andrew Adamson for Best Animated Feature Film (Shrek 2) and Taika
Waititi for Best Short Film (Two Cars, One Night).
To keep the film fans satisfied XtraMSN is providing a special Academy Awards channel with all the background on the
nominees, awards history, film reviews, and the opportunity to watch the trailers for nominated movies over broadband.
On the big day XtraMSN will be providing photographs of the red carpet frocks and shocks from 2.30pm, a list of the
winners as they are announced, and other stories from the event.
027 Customers can also keep tabs on the Oscars through internet on their mobile phone. The awards season site on 027
will list the winners as they are announced and will up date with red carpet news and images as they are released.
