STUDENT JOB SEARCH IN NEED OF 2,000 MORE JOBS TO SATISFY STUDENT DEMAND
Canterbury Student Job Search (SJS) projects the increasing number of students looking for jobs will require 2,000
additional jobs in the next month.
“Students are arriving back in Christchurch and looking for work to pay for rent, food, course fees, text books and the
like. We need local businesses and the community to support SJS and help us find these students work, “says Regional
Manager, Lupe Leota.
Leota attributes the increased demand SJS is experiencing on increasing financial pressures on students and the current
tertiary environment.
“Work experience and the need to pay off student debt are the two greatest factors in the massive increase we are seeing
in students using our free service,” says Leota. “Coupled with the increasing number of people enrolling in Tertiary
study, we have more traffic through our office than ever before.”
Business Development Manager, Pete Martin explains, “Traditionally, Canterbury has been the most forthcoming province
with the support that is so critical to a service like SJS functioning effectively. This year has been no exception.
However, we‘re asking for people to keep an ear to the ground and send anyone needing help to SJS.”
