Auckland International Airport reports record week
Auckland International Airport has reported a record 152,382 international passengers for the week ending 9 January
2005. This number does not include transit and transfer passengers.
Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) chief executive officer, Don Huse, says that despite the record passenger
numbers, improvements that have recently been made in processing passengers meant that the busiest week in the
international airport's history was handled "without fuss".
"The entire airport community worked hard to ensure that the processes were in place this year for a positive summer.
The record numbers reflect continuing strength in the New Zealand tourism sector."
The previous busiest week occurred the week ending 11 January 2004, during which 140,950 passengers passed through the
international terminal. The latest figure shows an increase of 11,432 on the previous year, excluding transit and
transfer passengers.
"The commitment that the Government has made with extra Customs and MAF staff funding, together with changes at the
airport to increase departures and arrivals capacity has ensured that visitors to New Zealand receive the very best
welcome to and farewell from our country."
