Progressive Enterprises Supports Red Cross Tsunami Relief Efforts
Foodtown, Woolworths and Countdown supermarkets are assisting the Red Cross in raising funds for Tsunami relief.
Checkout operators at 150 supermarkets nationwide will be asking customers if they would like to “donate a dollar” to the South Asia Tsunami Appeal run by the New Zealand Red Cross. Customers who opt to make a donation will have the amount added to their bill. Donation boxes are also available instore.
Progressive Enterprises Ltd managing director Richard Umbers says this is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions.
“We know that many New Zealanders want to support the cause and the instore appeal in conjunction with Red Cross is designed to make it easy for people to donate.”
“Already there’s been a great response from customers. Most people are keen to add a dollar to their bill and many are opting to donate greater sums that that.”
Red Cross Operations Manager Andrew McKie welcomed the support of Foodtown, Woolworths and Countdown supermarkets. “Having Foodtown, Woolworths and Countdown stores fundraising for the South Asia Tsunami relief efforts will help us to motivate New Zealanders to support this hugely important appeal. The generosity of Kiwi’s is amazing – they really want to give, to be able to contribute in some way which will ease the suffering caused by this disaster.”
Progressive Enterprises is also providing supplies of food and drinks for volunteers and staff at the Red Cross call centre which has been operating 24 hours a day since shortly after the disaster stuck.
A bulk supply of bottle water, Food2Go meals and snack foods have been sent to the Wellington centre today. Further supplies will be sent as needed.
