Stewart Island Experience sells vessel to Fullers Northland
Stewart Island Experience Ltd has announced that it has sold its new 23-metre catamaran, the Stewart Islander to Fullers
Northland in the Bay of Islands. Fullers Northland, which operates the “Hole in the Rock Cruise,” lost its vessel last
weekend after it ran aground.
Commenting, Phil Caskey, Chief Executive of Stewart Island Experience said, “While we have been very pleased with the
feedback from visitors who have travelled on the Stewart Islander, and with the vessel’s performance on Foveaux Strait,
its sale does allow us to design and build a larger purpose-built vessel that will take both small goods and passengers
together. At the same time we will look at an additional vessel that size-wise is better suited for the Paterson Inlet
Cruises, particularly now that we know what our concession allows us to do.
Our intention is to continue with the new timetable that we have established, utilising the Southern Express and Foveaux
Express that we purchased with Stewart Island Marine Services. Stewart Island Experience remains committed to providing
an excellent level of service to both the Stewart Island community and visitors alike and is confident in the future of
tourism on Stewart Island”.
Stewart Island Experience is a joint venture company between Sharan and Phil Caskey and Real Journeys.
