Hallensteins Creates Positive Waves In Support Of Surf Aid
Byrning Spears, a brand synonymous with surfing, has lent its name to a unique range of T-Shirt launching at Hallensteins this summer – with $10 from the sale of each T going to support Surf Aid International.
The brainchild of New Zealand doctor and philanthropist Dr Dave Jenkins and supported by Kiwi surfing legend Allan Byrne, Surf Aid International is a charity set up to fight malaria in the Mentawai Islands – a location that’s a haven for surfers, but a living hell for the local people.
“Surfing the Mentawais is like the final frontier for surfers. Accessed mainly by boat it offers perfect waves in a remote and seemingly idyllic location (off Northern Indonesia), but the people of the Mentawai Islands live in third world conditions,” says Dr Dave Jenkins.
“Surf Aid aims to give something back to those people whose waters give so much pleasure to so many – and we hope this partnership with Hallensteins will help us to generate much-needed funding.”
Approached directly by Allan Byrne to assist in raising funds, Hallensteins is producing a limited range of Byrning Spears T-shirts – which will be available throughout the summer season.
“Hallensteins is the only New Zealand-based retail brand to support this cause and although initially targeting surfers with a conscience, we trust the campaign will appeal to people who share the surfing spirit,” says Hallensteins Merchandise Director Roy Dillon.
To further boost sales, every purchaser of a Byrning Spears Surf Aid T-Shirt goes into a draw to win the ultimate surfing prize – a trip for two valued at $10,000 to the Mentawai Islands to surf the legendary breaks.
