Korean Air returns for summer
Korean Air’s direct Christchurch to Incheon (Seoul) service will take off from Christchurch International Airport
tomorrow.
Flying three times a week during December, January and February, this direct service will significantly increase the
cargo capabilities for freight operators as well as provide a huge boost to Christchurch and South Island tourism
operators.
‘We’re delighted that Korean Air is returning for the peak summer season.’ said chief executive George Bellew. ‘The
service gives fabulous access for passengers to travel to North Asia and in particular China while providing local
exporters and importers with great access to key markets on the worlds number-two air cargo carrier’ Korean Air has a
fleet of 119 aircraft and is one of world’s top 20 airlines, operating almost 400 passenger flights per day to 90 cities
in 33 countries.
Direct flights to Incheon connect Christchurch to an important North Asia hub with good services to a number of
destinations including Hanoi, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo as well as a large number of smaller Japanese and Chinese ports.
The airport company has launched joint venture media campaigns in Korea, using the internet and press advertising to
promote South Island destination holidays and the direct Korea – Christchurch flight.
‘Last year inbound Korean holiday makers on this direct service brought approximately $29 million into the region’ said
marketing manager Glenn Wedlock ‘The potential of the market is huge and we’re working hard to maximise this.’
