G6 Kiwi Views Kiwifruit Industry Changes As Predictable
Changes within the Bay of Plenty kiwifruit supply structure are part of industry progression, G6 Kiwi general manager
Linda Mills says.
This week has seen some movement between Industry Suppliers; developments that Mills says can only be viewed as
inevitable.
"G6 Kiwi wishes Eleos and Opotiki Packing and Coolstorage success in their new business ventures and still value them as
colleagues in the industry. The current changes have been considered in G6 Kiwi's strategic planning and forecasting.
Our position as one of Zespri's major suppliers will not change," Mills says.
Mills says change keeps the kiwifruit industry dynamic and interesting. "With so many growers, packing facilities and
management groups, rationalisation is bound to happen in a changing environment".
Mills says G6 Kiwi will remain an alliance of independently owned kiwifruit facilities. "Our focus is still on helping
our facilities achieve top end quality and performance standards. We expect our growth to continue over the next few
years through an increasing grower base and through further industry involvement."
Linda Mills is actively involved in the Supply Chain projects that have initiated from the recent Industry Review.
Earlier this year she conducted research in Europe to gain a better understanding of what happens to New Zealand
kiwifruit after it leaves our shores. Mills observations will be incorporated into the supply chain review process.
