Kiwis Dial A Slice Of Caller Tune Heaven
Caller Tunes are proving a smash hit with Telecom 027 customers, with over 100,000 songs, sounds and impersonations
having been set up since the beginning of October.
Dave Dobbyn’s Kiwi classic ‘Slice of Heaven’ is New Zealand’s most popular Caller Tune, closely followed by UB40’s ‘Red,
Red Wine’.
Instead of the traditional ‘brrring brrring’, Caller Tunes let Telecom 027 customers decide what their callers hear
while they’re waiting for them to answer the phone.
This week Telecom is adding to the selection and launching a new range of Christmas songs and themes, including seasonal
favourites such as ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Jingle Bells’, through to Christmas themed Simpsons’ and Ali G
impersonations. Other new content is added on a regular basis.
Telecom Mobile Head of Marketing, Kevin Bowler attributes the success of Caller Tunes to New Zealanders’ desire to
personalise their mobile phone, as well as their sense of fun.
“Whether it’s a Ringtone or a Caller Tune, New Zealanders are choosing to reflect their personality through their mobile
phone.”
Mr Bowler said the initial demand for Caller Tunes had surpassed Telecom’s expectations.
“Mobile technology is a movable feast. Like texting and ringtones before, there’s an insatiable demand for new and
interesting things to do with your mobile phone.”
