Chequer Launches New $5 Million Printing Press
Chequer Packaging Limited has invested NZ$5 million in a new state-of-the-art printing press at its production site in
East Tamaki, Auckland. The new machine, launched last week, is a 10-colour flexographic press and is the first of its
type installed in New Zealand or Australia.
“The new press will deliver unprecedented print quality to the flexible packaging market in both countries,” said
Marketing Manager Steve Pinkerton. Key features include on-line bar code scanning, print fault detection and extended
drying tunnel to eliminate retained solvents.
The company’s products include Minigrip™ bags, reclosable and non-reclosable stand-up and flat pouches, surface print
and laminated form fill and seal, a variety of retail and distribution focused specialised films, and refuse and retail
carry bags. They are used in many key packaging markets, including primary produce and horticulture as well as
high-profile fast moving consumer goods and retail businesses.
The new printing press is the first in a series of investments planned to underpin the group’s growth strategies over
the next few years, and will increase employment opportunities at the East Tamaki plant. Chequer Packaging employs 300
people at its flexible packaging sites in Auckland and Christchurch.
