Why Did The Harveys Chickens Cross The Road..?
18 November 2004: Harveys Petone and Hutt Valley staff proved their ability to close a deal wasn’t limited to property
sales last week as they took to the roads dressed as chickens to raise money for charity.
Taking part in the Petone Rotary Realty Response Week, the branches battled in friendly competition with other real
estate offices to raise a target of $10,000 for Te Omanga Hospice, and with a grand total of $3300 for the week, believe
they may have snatched the crown for the most money raised.
Throughout the week-long event, team members dressed up in chicken suits to solicit donations from motorists and held a
sausage sizzle outside the Petone office, collecting from the public, traffic and retailers. They also collected at the
local shopping centre and at open homes.
Petone branch manager Leanne Senior says the team felt overwhelmed at the generosity of the public. “We were blown
away. It was amazing how enthusiastic the public were to take part,” she says. “Some people even donated $20 notes. I’d
like to thank everyone who contributed towards such a worthwhile cause.”
The money raised will go toward a computerised patient management system for Te Omanga Hospice.
