CIS Appoints New NZ Directors
The Centre for Independent Studies, the influential trans-Tasman think tank, is pleased to announce the appointment of two additional New Zealand-based Directors, Mr Geoff Ricketts and Dr Don Turkington.
Geoff Ricketts is a consultant to Russell McVeagh Solicitors in New Zealand and a director of several companies. He is Chairman of Lion Nathan Limited and a director of Promina Group and the Todd Corporation. Mr Ricketts is also Chairman of the University of Auckland Foundation and a member of the Auckland Catholic Diocesan Advisory Board.
Don Turkington was Executive Director of Forsyth Barr from 2001-03 and before that was Managing Director of Cavill White Securities and Morgan Grenfell New Zealand. He is a member of the New Zealand Exchange Appeal Panel and is a trustee of The University of Auckland Foundation, Parenting with Confidence Inc., and the Auckland Philharmonia Foundation.
They join the Hon. Ruth Richardson as New Zealand representatives on the Centre's board.
This signifies a strengthening of the Centre's board and foreshadows a renewed focus on New Zealand policy issues in the CIS research, seminar and conference programme.
CIS Executive Director, Greg Lindsay, welcomed the appointments. He said that CIS has participated in the New Zealand ideas debates since 1986, and looks forward to strengthening CIS activities and policy development in the trans-Tasman and South West Pacific area.
