Air NZ wine award major stepping stone in Jackson Estate’s rise in the wine world
The 2004 Jackson Estate Sauvignon has won gold at the annual Air New Zealand Wine Awards, being held in Blenheim for the first time.
From a total of over 200 sauvignon blancs entered, just 12 received a gold medal.
This accolade follows gold for the same wine at the national Romeo Bragato winegrowers’ awards.
Jackson Estate, deep in the heart of Marlborough sauvignon country, is sold in a dozen countries around the world including The USA, Europe, Scandinavia and Asia.
``We are thrilled with this latest award success” general manager Belinda Jackson said today.
``Sales in New Zealand will see a considerable lift as consumers often look for independent endorsements to help them choose a wine.
The Jackson range of wines has also been accepted for the Vancouver Playhouse Wine Festival March 2005. Jackson Estate plans to continue expansion in New Zealand, the UK and the USA.
“This gold medal further endorses the quality of our wine to a global audience,’’ Ms Jackson said.
``We are still increasing our production to meet market demand and this medal will substantially help our sales by endorsing the quality we strive for.. It is just great to see Jackson Estate sauvignon blanc back on top,’’ she said.
Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia ``no one makes a more vivacious and vibrant sauvignon blanc, year in year out, than Jackson Estate.”
Master of Wine Bob Campbell said of the Jackson 2004 sauvignon blanc in this month’s Your Home and Garden: “…this power-packed wine is the best 2004 Sauvignon Blanc that I have yet tasted’’.
They have been producing wine since 1991 from the Homestead block in Jackson’s Road, Blenheim and opened their brand-new winery in March of this year
