Zed Set To Rock Mercury Energy Christmas At The Lake
Event organisers today announced that leading New Zealand band Zed has been signed as the lead act for this year’s Mercury Energy Christmas at the Lake .

Zed will perform at the popular Christmas event on 5 December 2004 where a crowd of up to 30,000 people are expected.
Organiser for the free community event, Gordon Woolley says securing big name acts like Zed is only possible with the continued support of companies such as Mercury Energy.
“The event is growing bigger every year and it’s great to have Mercury Energy as a sponsor,” he says. “Zed is a world-class band with a huge following in New Zealand and overseas, so I’m thrilled to have them confirmed to play at this year’s event.”
Mark Carter , Mercury Energy’s General Manager Consumer Markets, says the company is proud to support such a great community event.
“Christmas at the Lake is a fabulous event that just keeps going from strength to strength. This sponsorship allows us to return something to a community that supports us.”
Zed shot to fame in 2000 with their triple-platinum album Silencer and number one hit Renegade Fighter. The band recently released a second album, The Little Empire, and is currently touring Europe .
Zed’s lead singer, Nathan King, says the band has spent a lot of time performing overseas but is really looking forward to coming home and playing for the Hamilton crowd. “We’ve always found Hamilton a great place to perform, the crowd really gets into it and we’re looking forward to rocking Mercury Energy Christmas at the Lake .”
Local acts are still in the process of being confirmed and Mr Woolley says he has been overwhelmed with the amount of people wanting to be involved. “There is such a huge pool of talent in the Waikato that we’ve been inundated with demo tapes and phone calls from a diverse range of performers and entertainers. It’s really great to be able to provide a creative outlet for our community and showcase the amazing talent we have here.”
The free event is in its sixth year and aims to bring together the Hamilton community to celebrate the Christmas spirit. The event will include entertainment for the kids, carols by candlelight, choirs, local performers, and will end with a spectacular fireworks display. A collection will also be taken with donations going to the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance.
Mercury Energy Christmas at the Lake will be held at Hamilton Lake Domain, below the water tower between 3.30pm and 10pm, Sunday 5 December.
