Railways Chief Executive Officer – Appointment
Cameron Moore, Chairman of the New Zealand Railways Corporation is pleased to announce the Appointment David George as the Corporation’s Chief Executive.
David George, an Englishman, has been in Australia since 1990 where he is currently Group General Manager Coal & Freight Services for Queensland Rail National Limited.
Background David has a M.A. (Hons) degree in Metallurgy and Science of Materials from Oxford University, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and has had wide experience in the rail industry since 1974. He was with British Rail 1974-1990 when he was seconded to Queensland Rail and officially joined Queensland Rail in 1992, carrying out a number of senior roles. He has led the expansion of QR’s freight business from under 100 million tonnes to over 150 million tonnes. David brings extensive senior management and strategic experience.
David is married with two daughters.
David’s appointment is the result of an extensive international search for an experienced senior rail executive who has the capabilities to lead the Corporation’s team in rebuilding the New Zealand rail infrastructure.
