Commission receives clearance application from Vehicle Testing New Zealand to acquire On Road
The Commerce Commission has received an application from Vehicle Testing New Zealand Limited seeking clearance to acquire all the assets and business of On Road New Zealand Limited.
Both parties provide vehicle testing, inspection and related services from vehicle testing stations located throughout New Zealand.
Vehicle Testing New Zealand was established in 1994 as a State Owned Enterprise. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of MTA Investments Limited and is New Zealand’s largest supplier of independent motor vehicle safety inspections.
On Road New Zealand is a private company that was set up in 1992 when it purchased the North Shore Vehicle Testing Station and now has 15 vehicle testing stations throughout the country.
In considering this application, the Commission’s role is to determine whether the proposed acquisition has the effect of substantially lessening competition in a market.
A public version of the application is available on the Commission’s website www.comcom.govt.nz under Adjudication.
