New Water Look-A-Like Fights Fire Without Damaging Property
It looks like water, but dip your laptop or treasured photo album in a tank full of this liquid and it will come out
dry.
Wormald, a leading provider of fire protection systems announced today the New Zealand release of a groundbreaking
advancement in fire protection technology with the introduction of its SAPPHIRE™ Fire Suppression System. The system is
a revolutionary technology utilising a new sustainable chemical agent that fights fires without causing any damage to
electronics, works of art, irreplaceable artifacts, documents and other critical assets. It is also safe on the
environment.
The SAPPHIRE™ system provides the ideal solution for hospitals, museums, libraries, telecommunications centres and other
facilities seeking to protect critical assets that could be damaged by ordinary fire suppression systems.
It can be used to protect rare exhibits, electronic equipment and other delicate items without causing any harm.
The new system is quicker, safer and cleaner and it has an atmospheric lifetime of only five days, versus more than 33
years for the closest chemical alternative, as well as zero ozone depletion.
SAPPHIRE™ system works by chemically interfering with the fire combustion process, therefore bringing it to a halt,
normally before the fire breaks out in flames. The system also works faster than conventional water sprinkler systems,
which are designed to operate after a fire actually breaks out.
The SAPPHIRE™ Suppression System uses a Fire Protection Fluid, (3M™ NOVEC™ 1230) that looks exactly like water, but does
not cause the type of damage associated with water when putting out a fire.
