Douglas Myers Media Scholarship 2004: Call for Entries
The New Zealand Business Roundtable (NZBR) is calling for entries to the Douglas Myers Media Scholarship 2004.
The Douglas Myers Media Scholarship was established to honour Douglas Myers' role as a former chairman of the organisation and his contributions to business and public affairs. It facilitates overseas travel for young people working in the New Zealand media. The aim of the Scholarship is to give successful applicants the opportunity to broaden their knowledge about issues and ideas that need to be widely understood and debated if New Zealand is to be a successful country.
The Douglas Myers Scholarship is worth a total of $30,000 per year. It is open to print, radio and/or television journalists, reporters, producers, researchers and editors in the early stages of their careers.
The judging panel varies from year to year. For the 2004 Scholarship the judges are: Barry Soper (convener), political editor, Independent Radio News; Karl du Fresne, editorial consultant; Suzanne Carty, editorial executive, Fairfax New Zealand; George Andrews, independent television producer; and Roger Kerr, executive director of the New Zealand Business Roundtable.
Two winners were chosen in each of the first two years of the Scholarship. In 2002 the Scholarship was awarded to Christine Nikiel (National Business Review) and Kevin Taylor (New Zealand Herald) while last year's winners were Colin Espiner (Christchurch Press) and Jane O'Loughlin (Radio New Zealand).
Journalists considering applying are invited to contact NZBR Communications Advisor David Young for an information pack and further details.
