Meridian wind farm proposal welcomed by EECA
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has welcomed Meridian Energy’s proposal for a wind farm at White
Hill near Mossburn in Southland.
“EECA believes that wind energy has a vital role to play in electricity generation.” said Heather Staley, Chief
Executive of EECA. “New Zealand is well positioned to take advantage of our exceptional wind energy resource.
“If Meridian is successful in obtaining the necessary resource consents for the proposed White Hill wind farm, the site
could generate enough renewable energy for around 30,000 homes.
“The development of wind farms is a positive step towards meeting New Zealand’s future energy supply targets, and we
welcome Meridian Energy’s commitment to renewable energy sources.” Ms Staley said.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) is implementing the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Strategy which sets a target of 30 petajoules of additional energy from renewable sources - enough for around one
million homes - by 2012.
EECA is working to improve New Zealanders’ energy choices.
