Credit Unions Celebrate “Building Tomorrow” at their 43rd Annual Conference
NAPIER, Friday 17 September 2004 – The New Zealand Association of Credit Unions proudly celebrates it 43rd Annual
Conference in Napier. With over 200 delegates attending the event, this “Building Tomorrow” Conference features a
spectacular opening ceremony, a host of illustrious speakers, recognition awards and an art deco themed annual dinner,
“Elegance After Dark”.
The opening ceremony arranged by Credit Union Baywide features the historical re-creation of events which made Napier
what it is today and is certainly in keeping with our ‘Building Tomorrow’ theme”. Mayor of Napier, Barbara Arnott will
officiate at the opening ceremony,” said Doug McLaren, Chief Executive of the Association.
“Hon. Dr Michael Cullen, Deputy Prime Minister will also address our Member Credit Unions and many of them will be eager
to hear what he has to say about progress on reforms to the 22 year old Friendly Societies and Credit Unions Act 1982”.
The event will also feature well-known speakers such as the dynamic Mike Tamaki who will make a sensational entrance on
his Harley, Rod Oram, Roanne Parker and Jim Hainey.
Seven Credit Union people will receive awards for their significant contribution to the Movement. However, only one will
receive the highest honour of ‘Credit Union Person of the Year’. The most outstanding Credit Union will receive the
other coveted award, “People Helping People Credit Union Award”. The winners of these awards will be announced at the
annual dinner on Saturday 18 September 2004.
