Advertising rights for Auckland International Airport
Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) has today reached an agreement with Eye Corp, awarding it the indoor and outdoor advertising rights for the next 10 years to what is potentially New Zealand's largest single advertising site - Auckland Airport.
Eye Corp, with media businesses in New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia, will be managing nearly 100 advertising displays in both the international and domestic terminals and around the wider airport precinct.
The contract was awarded after a strongly contested process, the financial side of which remains commercially confidential.
AIAL general manager - retail, Nick Forbes, said that the Auckland Airport advertising rights was one of the major advertising display contracts in New Zealand, "Eye impressed us with its proposal and its value-driven approach with the strategic placement of sites to maximise the positive impact of advertising on-airport.
"With around 30,000 passengers travelling through the airport every day, AIAL is committed to presenting the airport professionally. Too much advertising can look downright awful. With a well thought through strategic approach to advertising, we can provide advertisers with the exposure they seek, while presenting the airport as a visually attractive place for travellers.
"Being the gateway to New Zealand, it is a very high-profile contract. Eye has proved itself working with major airports like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and we look forward to them beginning their work here at Auckland."
Eye Corp's contract takes effect on 1 November 2004, with an expected six-month rollout period, during which new sites will be designed and constructed. Auckland International Airport passengers, staff and visitors will notice a few changes, particularly on a couple of the airport's main intersections.
Eye Corp general manager strategy and development, Jeremy Corfield, says that the company will bring some innovative ideas for advertising to Auckland Airport, " as part of the proposal we will undertake a major upgrade and modernisation of the advertising infrastructure including the installation of LCD units, wall wraps and small and large format scrolling signs.
"We are very excited about the opportunities that will present themselves at Auckland International Airport and we can't wait to get to work on what must be New Zealand's most high-profile advertising location."
Eye Corp's portfolio of products includes large format outdoor sites, illuminated panels in Australia and New Zealand's major shopping centres and a multitude of premium advertising opportunities at domestic and international airport terminals in Australia, South East Asia and now New Zealand's largest and busiest international airport.
Auckland International Airport handles over 70 per cent of New Zealand's international air traffic and earlier this year passed the 10 million passengers per annum mark. Auckland Airport, in terms of the number of international passengers handled, is the second largest airport in Australasia. It has recently announced a construction programme which will see over $375 million worth of security and capacity enhancements made at the airport over the next three years. ends
