Barfoot & Thompson Auctioneer Leads Highly Successful Charity Auction
Barfoot & Thompson auctioneer Murray Smith recently donated his time and skills to raise what’s believed to be one of the largest
sums ever achieved at a charity auction in New Zealand.
Murray held centre stage at the recent Robin Hood Foundation auction at St Mathews in the City which raised $309,000.
Two hundred people attended the event where Robin Hood Foundation CEO Jude Manion says Murray brought the event alive,
encouraging bidders to dig deep.
“This is the third year we’ve run this event and Murray’s specialist auctioneering skills meant he was a true Robin Hood
on the night - persuading the rich to invest in the poor and prompting bids well beyond our expectations.”
The lots under the hammer comprised packages of media time and space kindly donated by print and radio media throughout
New Zealand. Bidders such as Nokia, Vodafone and Hewlett Packard spent an average of $20,000 each.
Jude says it was an electric night which saw the top bid reach $60,000 for a package of space across the Fairfax group
of papers.
The Robin Hood Foundation creates partnerships between business and not for profit organisations.
