PRESS RELEASE
Attracting overseas workers to help ease workload crisis
In response to the growing call to attract overseas workers to help ease the current workload crisis threatening the $3.2 billion worth of public and private works planned, Hays Construction & Property has launched its biggest global recruitment drive to attract UK candidates.
Hays will draw upon its GlobalLink system, which features a London-based team of specialist recruiters who will focus on placing overseas residents, particularly UK nationals, in New Zealand vacancies.
“It is widely recognised that New Zealand is being hit hard by skill shortages, and for several months we have been looking at the best strategies to attract new candidates to our market,” said Jason Walker, General Manager of Hays in New Zealand. “Our increased focus on attracting UK candidates is the result.
“Over the past year, almost 40% of our permanent placements have been overseas applicants, so we already have extensive experience in successfully recruiting candidates from overseas. We hope the focus on our GlobalLink service will further increase the flow of international candidates we attract to New Zealand vacancies.
“We have noticed that the scale and scope of projects throughout all of New Zealand, the resultant vacancies and the improved lifestyle on offer, are creating increased interest from overseas applicants. We will be promoting these opportunities to overseas candidates in the coming months.”
New Zealand’s skills shortages are across the board, no longer just for skilled labour but also include engineering, building services, architecture, quantity surveying, and construction professionals.
In the past, Hays has used its GlobalLink system to successfully undertake UK-based advertising campaigns on behalf of New Zealand clients. An example of the effectiveness of Hays’ international sourcing is a campaign run for the recruitment of Project Managers for a New Zealand client. Hays suggested sourcing candidates from the UK market and put forward a business plan to run a full-scale national recruitment campaign with the help of our 130 offices in the UK and our specialist recruiters in London. The campaign was a huge success, with our client gaining highly qualified and experienced Project Managers for various locations across NZ, at a time when such candidates are almost impossible to source from the local market.
Hays is in the unique position that we can take advantage of our global database of over 250,000 candidates, developed from an international presence that includes over 4,500 colleagues in 306 offices throughout 17 countries.
