Fairfax Nz Appoints Trevor Mckewen General Manager Of Sport
Fairfax New Zealand has announced the appointment of Trevor McKewen as General Manager-Sport.
Chief Executive Officer Brian Evans said today the appointment will assist Fairfax to position the publishing business, and particularly in the initial stages its Sunday newspapers, for an exciting future.
Trevor McKewen’s initial assignment will be at the Sunday’s division, where he will manage and edit sports content for the Sunday Star-Times and also assist the Sunday News on sports initiatives.
Brian Evans added: ``Trevor will lead a dream team of innovators and star writers who will take Fairfax to a new dimension not only with our popular and growing Sunday newspapers but also in exciting new ventures which our Australasian group is working on.’’
He said he was delighted that Mr McKewen had decided to join the Fairfax Group.
``Trevor, who had a leading role in the launch of the Sunday Star-Times, has an outstanding track record in Sunday newspaper journalism.
``He is known among many New Zealanders as the leading exponent of sports reporting and editing in this part of the market. He brings unique skills to Fairfax and his team will give our readers even more reason to look forward to their Sunday Star-Times – the Newspaper of the Year.
“Fairfax is thrilled with the reception readers and advertisers have given our new glossy magazine Sunday. We have seen a significant lift in Sunday Star-Times sales since the launch of the magazine in June.
“Other parts of our Sunday newspapers are also being developed and today’s announcement signals an even better Sunday Star-Times sports section, which we know is already viewed as an excellent read by many sports fans.’’
Brian Evans said Trevor McKewen’s recent roles as general manager of the New Zealand Rugby Union’s commercial activities, chief executive at the Auckland Warriors, and in Australia as an executive at Superleague, were also of considerable interest to Fairfax.
``Fairfax has a fabulous range of publications and content to offer and we see opportunities in the future for Trevor to utilise his commercial skills with us on new ventures.’’
Trevor McKewen said: ``I’m delighted to join Fairfax and especially pleased I will have input into the Sunday Star-Times and Sunday News as I have sentimental ties to both.
``Fairfax is a great media company and I’m very confident that sports readers will enjoy the plans the group has for the future.’’
