Freedom Air’s Fiji Services Hot To Trot
With its inaugural flights having taken off just over two months ago, Freedom Air’s Fiji services have proved hugely
popular with strong bookings across all of its new routes.
More than 13,560 bookings have been made on the airline’s new year-round services that fly direct to Nadi from
Christchurch, Hamilton and Palmerston North. In particular, Fiji has proven to be a favourite in the Manawatu with
bookings approximately 5% higher on flights from Palmerston North.
Rachel Gardiner, Freedom Air sales and marketing manager, says the airline is very excited by the level of support being
shown, “We always knew that Fiji was a popular holiday destination for New Zealanders and this fact has been confirmed
by the impressive level of bookings we are seeing.”
July has been the most popular month for Fiji bookings with more than 3,258 seats sold during this time. Gardiner says
the high numbers travelling in July are inline with the school holidays. “Fiji is a very family friendly destination and
with our really, really small fares and direct flights its no surprise that people are now choosing to take the whole
family to Fiji for the school holidays.”
Paresh Pant, New Zealand Director for the Fiji Visitors Bureau says Freedom Air’s new services have definitely helped
boost visitor numbers. “ Freedom Air’s services give thousands of New Zealander’s direct access to Fiji that previously
didn’t have this opportunity – and that’s great for Fiji,” he says. “The July school holidays have been so popular that
accommodation in some desired areas of Fiji is running close to maximum capacity.”
Freedom Air’s Fiji services are part of a new strategic direction for the airline, which will see it investigate other
new leisure destinations within a five-hour flight time of New Zealand.
