South Island Food Manufacturer Enters Snack Food Market
Prime Foods New Zealand, a family owned business operated by the Studholme family since 1994, are entering the competitive snack food market with a healthy alternative.
Prime Foods NZ is the local manufacturer of Prime Smoke Salmon brand and Studholme Salmon brand. Employing 25 staff, they are located in the small country town of Hororata in Canterbury. Prime Foods NZ is used to taking on large international food companies, having built Prime Smoke into one of the largest smoked salmon retail brands in New Zealand.
This time Prime Foods NZ is set to enter the competitive snack food market launching a range of apple crisps. Studholme Apple Crisps are following the tradition of quality foodstuffs without additives - a 100 percent natural and healthy snack food.
The founder of Prime Foods NZ, Henry Studholme, discovered the unique apple crisp product whilst at a food fair in Cologne, Germany. The technology to produce quality apple crisps is not present in New Zealand. The apple crisps are vacuumed dried at a low temperature and retain a unique, crisp, crunch texture to them without losing the full flavour of apples. The apple crisps are 100 percent natural and 100 percent fat free.
Mother Earth, a large Australian company, had been supplying the New Zealand market with apple crisps but has withdrawn from the New Zealand marketplace, leaving a gap which Studholme Apple Crisps is set to fill.
Henry Studholme felt there was a growing awareness of the need to eat healthy food, particularly in the snack and fast food market. Market research projections indicate that between 5,000-10,000 packets will move per week, making a healthy dent in the snack food industry. Packed in 40g packets, Studholme Apple Crisps is targeting the snack food market for kids and adults. Nationwide distribution agreements have been reached and Studholme Apple Crisps will be hitting supermarket shelves soon.
Studholme Apple Crisps is the first in a series of products that Prime Foods NZ plans to launch on a continuing basis as part of a strategy to broaden their product base with unique, healthy, quality products.
