Rush Munro's Scoops Kids Choice at National Ice Cream Awards
Faced with a delicious array of ice-cream, a panel of discerning children selected Rush Munro's Cookies and Cream 100% Natural Ice Cream as their most preferred in the New Zealand Ice Cream Awards, announced last week.
The 'Kids Choice' category in the annual awards is judged by a panel of six children. This year's panel was selected from Alfriston, a rural school South of Auckland. The three boys and three girls were aged between 7 and 13 and couldn't believe their luck to score their "dream job."
According to the New Zealand Ice Cream Manufacturers Association, the children were very analytical in their decisions and scoring, with Rush Munro's Cookies and Cream coming out tops overall.
Rush Munro's General Manager Debbie Stirling says it was an honour to win this category.
"We're delighted to have won the Kid's Choice category. With so many brightly-coloured, lolly-filled entries to choose from it's fantastic that the children selected our Cookies and Cream - a product that's 100% natural, with no artificial additives," says Ms Stirling.
"It just goes to show that a good quality product with natural flavours and ingredients appeals to people of all ages."
In addition to the Kid's Choice award, Rush Munro's Banana 100% Natural Ice Cream won Gold and Best in Category in the 'Standard Ice Cream with Additions' category.
Rush Munro's was also awarded seven Silvers across a number of categories, including Premium Ice Cream, Open Creative Ice Cream and Gelato/Sorbet/Low Fat. A complete list of the company's 2004 awards is tabled below.

The 2004 New Zealand Ice Cream Awards attracted a total of 143 entries across eight categories, from 12 manufacturers. Winners were announced at the NZICMA annual conference in Cairns on Friday, 18 June.
Founded in 1926, Rush Munro's is New Zealand's oldest ice-cream manufacturer. The Hastings-based company is known for its luxury ice creams, containing first rate, 100% natural ingredients. Rush Munro's chocolate is handmade, its coffee beans are especially selected and roasted and only real fruit is used in its products.
Rush Munro's has been developing a line of organic ice creams in a range of luxurious flavours, which will be available for in selected shops later this year.
Meanwhile, the soon-to-be-launched Organic Irish Crème flavour won a Silver award in the 'Open Creative Ice Cream' category at the awards.
Ms Stirling says it's wonderful that the company's new line of organics can be launched with an award-winning flavour.
