Richmond take step closer to Venison Suppliers
Richmond Ltd announced today it will manage deer procurement directly as it works to build even closer relationships
with farmer suppliers and improve farmgate returns.
The move will end a 10-year procurement relationship with Wrightson Ltd.
Richmond Venison Manager Nick Sherwood said this is a positive step for the company and its venison farmer suppliers.
“It’s about offering the best possible service and information to our supplier base, for the best value,” Mr Sherwood
said.
The dynamics of Richmond’s venison business has, and will continue to change as markets and new business develop.
The future will hold more opportunities to work with suppliers on contracts and supply agreements.
“Working directly with our deer farmer suppliers will ensure these opportunities are managed more effectively,
especially with the links and closer relationship the venison business now shares particularly with Richmond’s lamb
business, as well as with some of our traditional beef customers,” Mr Sherwood said.
“Richmond’s long-standing relationship with Wrightson had suited both parties. However, after reviewing venison
operations, evaluating the company’s commitment to the industry and future opportunities, we felt it was important to
have closer contact with our farmer suppliers,” he said.
“Richmond Livestock representatives will be able to offer farmer suppliers the whole package”.
Richmond has notified farmer suppliers who currently book their deer processing with Richmond through Wrightson agents
about the change and how they book their livestock directly.
Wrightson has been advised of the changes, which come into effect from 30th June 2004.
