South Island High Country Committee Conference
The South Island High Country Committee’s (SIHCC) annual conference will be held at The Millennium Hotel, Frankton Road,
Queenstown on 11-12 June.
The South Island High Country Committee is an industry group of Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc).
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘multiple land use’ and a panel of speakers will discuss how they fit access,
sustainability, accommodation, and diverse production, into their farming business. This presentation will be followed
by an address at 2 pm from Hon. Chris Carter; Minister of Conservation. His speech will include the government’s
perspective on multiple land use into his address.
David Boyd, Chairman of Clyde Agriculture, a major cotton, wool, wheat and beef producer with holdings spread through
northern New South Wales and Queensland, will present an insight into farming under pastoral leases in Australia. Other
topics up for discussion include land tenure review, land access, and the ongoing problem of Canada Geese.
John Davis will stand down as SIHCC Chairman, and a new chair will be elected during the annual general meeting of the
committee, which takes place directly after the conclusion of the conference.
