Grains Council of New Zealand Conference
The Grains Council of New Zealand, the arable industry group of Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc) will hold its
Annual Conference on 8 - 10 June at the Chancellor Resort, Methven.
The conference encompasses the annual general meetings of United Wheatgrowers, the Herbage Seedgrowers Subsection and
the Maize Growers’ Subsection.
The Grains Council conference will be held concurrently with the New Zealand
Bee Industry Group conference, allowing the industry groups to join to discuss areas of mutual interest.
Guest speakers will address key issues facing the arable industry. The ‘Weston Milling Wheat Symposium’ has guest
speakers Greg Bourke from Weston Milling and Rod Grout from Pacifica Shipping will discuss the coastal shipping review.
Malcolm Bartholomaeus, an Australian farmer and futures advisor will speak on the future of wheat. Dr Mark Goodwin from
Hort Research and John McKay from South Pacific Seeds will discuss pollination and Pete Jamieson from Crop & Food Research will discuss innovation in the arable industry.
Issues up for discussion include the transfer of hazardous substances and new organisms, regulations on agricultural
vehicles and the amendments to the Employment Relations Act.
The winners of the Ravensdown/United Wheatgrower Wheat Competition Awards will be announced at 7pm on Wednesday 9 June.
