Hyundai 7th biggest, closing on Top Five
Hyundai has maintained its drive towards the top five car makers in the world, with 2003 sales figures topping both
Honda and Nissan.
Hyundai Motor Group retained its global ranking of seventh last year, surprising Japanese analysts who eyed slow
domestic sales in Korea.
The group, incorporating Hyundai and Kia brands, recorded 3,046,333 sales and a total production of 3,085,836 vehicles
for the year.
That's breathing down the neck of PSA Group, the French concern comprising Peugeot and Citroen, which was sixth with
sales of 3.29 million and production of 3.31 million vehicles.
The top five were General Motors, Toyota Motor, Ford Motor, Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler.
Hyundai Motor Group topped Nissan by 77,976 units in sales, while the output gap to Honda stood at 117,520 units.
In 2004, Hyundai Motor Group is aiming for sales of 3.47 million vehicles, compared with Honda's target of 3.2 million.
A mass-market leader in safety initiatives, focused on reliability and quality as well as value, the South Koreans have
openly targeted a spot in the global top five by year 2010.
