One of New Zealand’s leading real estate auctioneers, Roger Dawson of Christchurch has won Harcourts’ coveted national
Auctioneer of the Year Award.
The announcement was made on Wednesday night at the 2003-2004 black tie Awards Dinner concluding Harcourts' annual three
day Conference, believed to be New Zealand’s largest ever real estate Conference with over 1,100 attending.
The Annual Auctioneers’ Competition was held Monday 17 May with 20 of Harcourts’ auctioneers from throughout the country
competing. The four finalists (Roger Dawson, Phil Hayes and Andrew Sim from Auckland, and Grant Child from Tauranga)
then conducted a competition auction in front of over 500 of their Harcourts peers and independent judges, Murray Smith
and John Abbott.
Mr Dawson was Harcourts’ Auctioneer of the Year in 2000 and 2002 and also won the REINZ bi-annual National Auctioneer
Championship in 1998, as well as being placed in the top three in 2002.
Joining the real estate industry in 1983, Mr Dawson became an auctioneer in 1987, graduating from the renowned Melbourne
Auction School in 1988 and gaining accreditation as a REINZ auctioneer in 1993. He has completed well in excess of 1,700
auctions, and frequently provides his services at no cost for charity and fundraising auctions.
Harcourts National Auction Manager, David Clifton, said, “Roger epitomises all the standards of a professional
auctioneer as shown by his many and consistent award wins.”
Mr Clifton added that Harcourts’ Auctioneer of the Year award had become a coveted and prestigious title reflecting the
continuing emphasis Harcourts put on maintaining the highest standards. “We are the largest property auctioneers in the
country with the most specialist auctioneers and we continually improve the standard of our auctioneers and the service
they provide through ongoing training and competitions like this.”
