LUXURY CAPITAL CITY ESCAPES BREAK NEW GROUND FOR INTERCONTINENTAL
Wellington's only five-star hotel, the InterContinental Wellington, has launched its first range of Weekend Escapes aimed at rejuvenating visitors to the capital.
The seven-tier programme begins with a basic one-night stay for two including breakfast and full use of the Emerge Health Club and Spa facilities from just $224 for two people.
The concept then builds up in optional layers of indulgence - from a gourmet dinner in the hotel's award-winning Chameleon restaurant, to massage and beauty treatments for two in the spa, or his and hers gifts from top fragrance houses Christian Dior, Bulgari or Yves Saint Laurent.
A unique offering is a special fashion package including a half-hour 'by appointment only' consultation at designer Robyn Mathieson's fashion house plus a $75 voucher to spend in the store.
Or a chauffeured limousine tour of the Wellington region to indulge in the fine wines of Martinborough, appreciate Wellington's art galleries and museums, master the greens at the magnificent Paraparaumu Golf Club or embark on a Lord of the Rings location tour from $202 extra per person.
Any combination of these elements is possible by mixing and matching those experiences that appeal.
Andrew Loader, InterContinental Hotel Group's Sales & Marketing Director for New Zealand and the South Pacific, believes the new weekend offering builds in a wider range of luxury options than most hotel-based leisure programmes to the capital.
Mr Loader anticipates the Weekend Escapes will be particularly popular with travellers making use of the new low domestic airfares or using frequent flyer reward flights to reach Wellington.
"These escape breaks offer an imaginative, luxurious way of planning a memorable Wellington weekend away with all the ground arrangements taken care of so all you have to do is relax, " he said.
