ORCON Extends Network Reach Through Unbundled Partial Circuits
Internet Service Provider Orcon will be extending its network as the first company to trial Telecom’s new unbundled
partial circuit (UPC) service.
If the trial is successful Orcon intend to purchase access to UPC for a number of customers.
The UPC service enables telecommunications companies to extend the reach of their network by using Telecom data circuits
rather than having to build their own infrastructure.
Orcon will trial the service which is due to be commercially launched next month.
UPC will enable Orcon to provide its customers – including other ISPs, cyber cafés and businesses - throughout New
Zealand with international bandwidth and other Internet services.
“The advantage of this solution is that we now have greater network reach with a defined high service performance,”
Orcon Managing Director Seeby Woodhouse said.
“In addition the new pricing structure provides for greater flexibility which will enable us to refine the services we
are providing customers– in some cases providing savings of up to 25 percent.”
Orcon is one the largest providers of broadband services in New Zealand, through its own retail customers base and
through the supply and aggregation of services to approximately one third of ISPs in New Zealand.
Last month Orcon was the first company to sign up to Telecom’s new wholesale services agreement (WSA) which covers a
comprehensive range of Telecom’s residential and broadband product and services.
Telecom General Manager Wholesale Tim Lusk said Telecom was pleased to be developing new services that meet the
industry’s needs and working with companies, such as Orcon.

providers to meet their needs.”
