Contact Congratulates Bevan Docherty – The World’s Number One Triathlete
Contact Energy congratulated triathlete Bevan Docherty on his outstanding win at the International Triathlon Union World
Championships in Madeira, Portugal on Sunday.
The win propelled the Contact-sponsored athlete to first place in the ITU world rankings. He was previously ranked
second.
Stephen Barrett, chief executive of Contact Energy said the company was extremely proud of Bevan’s achievement.
“Bevan has reached the very pinnacle of world triathlon with his sensational win in Portugal. We are delighted for Bevan
that he has achieved one of his career goals and proud to support him in his build-up to the Olympics.”
Contact has sponsored Bevan Docherty in his world championship bid and in the lead up to representing New Zealand at the
Olympic Games in Athens later this year.
Bevan was born and bred in Taupo where Contact Energy operates the Wairakei geothermal power station, which employs 65
people, brings approximately $7 million into the Taupo economy annually, and generates some five per cent of New
Zealand’s total electricity needs.
Mr Barrett said “As a company with a major stake in this community, Contact Energy is proud to be the lead sponsor for
Bevan, the first Taupo-born athlete to be selected for the Olympics.”
