Auckland Business targeting obesity in schools

Auckland business, taking responsibility, and targeting obesity in schools.
Yummy Tummies announces the launch of their new “Mini Meals”, a product developed particularly for schools – their aim to attract children to a healthier lunch option.
Yummy Tummies currently provides “dinner style” meals served with two vegetables and offers a home delivery service across Auckland. The new mini meals have been put together following the recent hype and negative press regarding child obesity, highlighting the need to replace fatty pies and buns, typically purchased by children in their school tuck shops.
It is important to realise that children need a balance of carbohydrates and protein, and of course a tasty product, which these are. Busy parents provide the money for their children to purchase their lunch, but food manufacturers must be responsible and offer healthier products if we are to help our children – especially in schools.
Mini Meals are a whole sliced potato which is baked (not fried), and topped with children’s favourites, such as Ham, Tomato & Cheese, Ham, Pine & Cheese, Chicken & Cranberry, a Mince Topper and a Vegetarian option. Lunch size portions of our Meat Bolognese & an Asian style vegetable dish will also be available in the short term. Yummy Tummies, well know for their use of fresh and natural ingredients believe children will favour the new products which will be available from the 2nd week of May.
A baked potato with a protein rich topping is an excellent filler for children, it is very tasty, and certainly better for them than a fatty pie. The meals are cooked and frozen, and served in trays simply reheated by standard school pie warmers, microwaves and ovens. The cost is also relative to the current price of a standard pie – which is a deliberate move.
2 new Auckland based reps allows us to supply Auckland Schools directly, says Fran Hume, to ensure it is cost effective to all income earners. Yummy Tummies is intending to create a distribution network as soon as possible to service other centres across New Zealand.
The new Mini Meals are cooked, frozen and ready for reheating in school pie warmers, standard or microwave ovens.
Yummy Tummies meals have previously been endorsed by Professor Jim Mann, expert in child nutrition from Otago University. Yummy Tummies are also a finalist representing New Zealand at the Sial Global Food Awards in Paris. The winners to be announced later in May.
