Kapiti's Roading Future
Kapiti Business Inc. KBI has been a strong supporter of Transmission Gully as extra costs, delays, injuries & deaths along with travel uncertainty are affecting business's & residents on the Kapiti Coast now.
Kapiti Business Incorporated has not had the opportunity to fully assess the implications of the latest costings.
However, it is clear that costs will continue to climb with delays. We understand that Transit are considering another
round of in-depth costings to evaluate the alternatives. This would not be available till late next year.
As delays increase, costs will also increase dramatically; more people will be injured or worse, die with the current
substandard roading system.
The chairman of KBI Mike Olsen personal view is that Kapiti Business Inc. would only reluctantly support this new round
of costings if at the end of that process there is a clear way forward. The process of obtaining political commitment to
provide funding becomes more important than ever. Central Government needs to allocate extra funding to Transfund
enabling major projects of National importance to proceed. The current evaluation criteria cannot ever indicate a clear
path forward toward a road!
