Auckland the centre of landscape design excellence
Clever landscape designs and excellent implementation secured ten awards for Auckland company Natural Habitats at the
Landscape Industries Association's (LIANZ) biennial awards which were held on Monday 5 April in Christchurch.
The judges who include sculptor Virginia King and Jack Hobbs of Maggie's Garden Show fame were impressed by the
company's landscapes that were selected from New Zealand's most outstanding design projects. With two gold, six silver
and two bronze awards their designs clearly showcase the best New Zealand has to offer.
Natural Habitats' design manager Mike Jack was thrilled with the peer recognition for their work and said, "We've always
considered our landscapes to be at the cutting edge of design but it's absolutely fantastic to be recognised by the
industry."
Natural Habitats' winning designs are often deceptively simple yet of a timeless quality and expertly crafted. They
include innovative design elements and pristine pools or water features, accompanied by solid stone walls and wrought
iron gates, with stunning plantings completing the scene.
The awards represent projects from the two major landscape professions in New Zealand: NZILA (NZ Institute of landscape
architects) and LIANZ (Landscape Industries Association of NZ).
New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA) president Di Lucas said "These awards are an important opportunity
for clients and the public to see what is current best practice in this profession."
