New Owners at Parkside
Retirement village and rest home operators Summerset today announced they have purchased the Parkside Hospital
Continuing Care business on Kennedy Road, Napier, and will take over its management immediately.
“Summerset has been operating retirement villages for 10 years now and, with our considerable experience in managing
continuing care health facilities, we are confident we will soon have it meeting both our standards of service and those
expected by the District Health Board”, says Norah Barlow, chief executive, Summerset.
The premises will be re-named Summerset by the Park, in line with Summerset’s seven other retirement villages throughout
the North Island. There is a Summerset retirement village in Havelock North.
“With this purchase we have become responsible for the residents who currently live there. Getting to know these
residents and their families, understanding their needs and ensuring the change of ownership has minimal impact on them,
is our first priority.”
“Our aim is to provide a comfortable homelike environment for our residents and their families, while ensuring excellent
nursing care and hospital facilities are maintained,” says Ms Barlow.
Summerset intends to assess the standard of accommodation and the levels of service for residents against its service
levels at other facilities.
“We have a Quality Programme for assessing and improving services. If necessary we will make changes to ensure the
services provided and the professionalism of staff meets our exacting standards.”
A manager, who has long term experience in continuing care, will be appointed by Summerset to run the facility.
