Wishbone Spreading Its Fast 50 Wings
Wishbone started with a sandwich in Wellington, and now the enterprising ‘ready to go’ food business is spreading its wings to central Auckland as it positions itself to be a major New Zealand food brand.
The Wellington based company’s fast paced growth, vision and drive was acknowledged in 2003 when Wishbone was ranked no. 35 in the Deloitte/unlimited Fast 50 Companies, an elite ranking of the fastest growing companies in New Zealand.
Wishbone will launch its first Auckland stores at the beginning of April in Vulcan Lane and Shortland St. The inner city locations replicate the CBD emphasis in Wellington where Wishbone has established seven stores since 2000, one in the James Cook Arcade and another in northern Lambton Quay last week.
Wishbone is the brainchild and passion of Wellington entrepreneurs Andrea Gibson Scarlett and Shayne Scarlett. Their past experience in business start-ups include the Plimmer Apartments, award winning Woodward Restaurant, Café Minnow and Minnow home store.
Spotting a gap in the New Zealand ‘food to go’ market, Andrea and Shayne developed the Wishbone way - an innovative approach to quality fresh food for busy people.
‘The original concept was founded on the Wishbone sandwich and we have since increased our range to over 85 different breakfast, lunch and dinner offers’ explains Managing Director Shayne Scarlett.
The company employs over 60 staff, including a core team of twelve professional chefs who take turns working around the clock in Wishbone’s kitchen. This ensures fresh food is delivered daily to stores. Muesli, salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, breads coffee, juices, smoothies, cookies, muffins, slices and cakes; Wishbone has it covered.
Breakfasts include Rhubarb or Berry Muesli & Yoghurt Trios. Sandwiches range from Egg & Spinach and B.L.A.T to Chicken and Almond. Lunch time favourites such as Thai Beef or Mediterranean Pesto Salads and Tandoori Chicken Tortilla Wraps are complimented by piping hot meals from the Bain Marie, such as Chorizo Paella and Butter Chicken.
‘People are getting busier but they still believe in eating well. We’re proud to offer an affordable, healthy and convenient option for people in a hurry who appreciate quality food’ says Wishbone CEO Andrea Gibson Scarlett.
Wishbone also produces a substantial range of ‘Heat & Eat’ meals including Braised Lamb Shanks, Vegetable Lasagne and Fettuccine Carbonara. These are also available in over 35 North Island supermarkets.
