Paul Maher Appointed CEO Starcom New Zealand
Currently CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) in Canada, Paul Maher will return to New Zealand in June to take up the
CEO position for Starcom New Zealand.
A graduate of Advertising and Marketing from AUT, Paul held media positions at McCann Erickson and Colenso where he
worked on a number of New Zealand’s largest FMCG companies including Nestle, Heinz, Coca-Cola and DB Breweries.
Paul then spent six years at Mojo (now Publicis), during which time he held a variety of roles from Media Director at
Mojo New Zealand to Partner Optimedia Australasia. Successes during that time included launching Optimedia in New
Zealand and Australia and winning Australia’s largest media assignment, Telstra. Paul established the Telstra team and
held the role of Director of Buying.
Wanting a change of direction, Paul then moved back to New Zealand to lead the Agency Sales Team at Television New
Zealand. During his three year tenure the company achieved its highest market share in over ten years. Paul was part of
the team that introduced the Talus Inventory Management System.
Paul joined Starcom in Asia, initially as Managing Director of Starcom Hong Kong, and then became CEO of Starcom Hong
Kong and China. During that time Starcom consolidated its two brands and was the first global market to strike a deal to
take over management of Dentsu Media Business.
In late 2002 Paul, his wife and two children moved to Toronto where Paul established SMG as a consolidated operational
structure for its two power brands Starcom and MediaVest.
