Storm Claims Keep Experts On The Run
After more than three weeks of non-stop work, insurance loss adjusters have been praised by their international
president for their dedication.
Wellington-based adjuster Mark Godfrey, who is President of the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters
(AICLA), said insurance loss adjusters, who sort out the details of claims, have been “worked off their feet” after the
spate of storms which have hit the North Island.
“Dealing with claims for people immediately after a disaster is a complex business that needs considerable technical
knowledge and personal sensitivity,” Mr Godfrey said. “Loss adjusters are the ones who have to sort out emergency
accommodation and funding for people affected by damage or even the loss of their homes.”
Many adjusters have been away from their own homes for several weeks now, with the spate of storms staying ahead of the
claims experts. “It means several more weeks of hard work on the road before many adjusters can get back to their
bases,” he said. “They will have plenty of stories to tell.”
Mr Godfrey said the AICLA is “very proud” of members’ professionalism in the clean-up operation. “They are an essential
part of the recovery process, and working with the insurance companies they have managed to make the best of what has
been an awful experience for so many people.”
