Survey Shows Significant Increase In Fairfax Lifestyle Titles
Fairfax Magazines’ niche and lifestyle titles continue to grow in popularity with the latest surveys showing Cuisine,
onHoliday and Boating NZ are the readers’ choice for information and entertainment.
New AC Nielsen Media figures - covering the period January to December 2003 - highlight the steady readership increases
in these three leading titles.
Fairfax NZ CEO, Brian Evans, says the figures continue to reflect the effective delivery of quality magazines that give
readers what they want.
“Cuisine readership is up 10% year-on-year. It has a record number of subscribers going in to its 103rd issue and has
held its own in what has been a competitive year with an unparalleled number of cookbooks being published.
“onHoliday’s circulation is up 4.37% year-on-year and it is the authoritative guide to New Zealand holidays, whether as
a holiday planner or for arm-chair travel. While there is no year-on-year comparison for onHoliday it is showing a very
healthy readership of 116,000.
“Boating NZ’s new look launched last September has proved a winner with boating enthusiasts. The latest Audit Bureau of
Circulations figures for July to December 2003 show a 2.53% increase and readership is up 11% year-on-year to 194,000.
“NZ Trucking has also benefited from a redesign and relaunch last April with circulation increasing by 5.11% and
readership jumping up by 10%.
“TV Guide is still the largest circulation magazine (217,695) in the country and offers advertisers a powerful tool for
interacting with consumers. The magazine is holding up well against competition from free regional television listings
in newspapers and continues to be the bible New Zealanders reach for to maximise their TV enjoyment.
“NZ House & Garden, with monthly sales of 77,195, continues to dominate the competitive lifestyle market. This category is
characterised by the rapidly growing number of products now available for redemption through loyalty programmes and this
is reflected in a slight decline in year-on-year circulation figures.”
“NZ Horse & Pony continues to consolidate its circulation with yet another increase of 1.64%.”
