Yellow card system for natural gas cheats
Gas Association Chairman, Trevor Goodwin said that reports are flowing in of efforts to conserve natural gas supplies for essential services in Hawke's Bay, following the outage caused by the Manawatu floods.
"However, we are concerned that some commercial and industrial users have turned their gas back on again, despite agreeing to shed load as per their contracts with their suppliers," he said.
"A 'yellow card'/'red card' system is now in place where a single warning will be given to users who have turned their gas back on.
"Where consumers do not comply with their agreements during this emergency, their meters will be removed. This is the 'red card' sin bin, Trevor Goodwin said.
The Gas Industry has set up an 0800 number to provide ongoing, updated information for consumers. They can ring 0800 50 7000.
