Virigin flight takes off for City Mission
New Zealand's newest airline is auctioning off its stocks for one of Christchurch's oldest charities.
Pacific Blue is holding a charity auction during its inaugural flight from Christchurch to Brisbane today (Thursday 29 January), with proceeds going to the Christchurch City Mission.
Items in the auction include travel packages to Brisbane, duty-free packs and Pacific Blue promotional items such as tee-shirts.
Pacific Blue spokesperson Jo Wedlock says they are rapt to have been welcomed so warmly into the Christchurch community.
"We like to help out our local communities as much as we can and we saw our inaugural Christchurch flight as a great opportunity to do that. The Christchurch City Mission is a charity that has proven to be proactive in the local community and one that we are sure will put the funds raised to good use," says Jo Wedlock.
Christchurch City Missioner Canon David Morrell, who will be on the inaugural flight, says the Mission is at the heart of Christchurch city as it helps those in our society who need it the most.
"Every cent donated to the Mission goes towards improving the lives of our society's most vulnerable. We are humbled and grateful that Pacific Blue has chosen to support the City Mission," says David Morrell.
